Oatmeal is awesome; it contains fiber. Which is great for your heart, digestive system, and it may even reduce your risk of cancer[1] Oatmeal is also bland. This may appear to be a weakness, but really that’s the beauty of it. It’s the canvas-- the base you build upon, and you can take it in so many delicious directions.

Yes, you can buy those instant flavored packs, but after you try your hand at topping your own oatmeal you might not ever want to go back to the soggy premade stuff.
Slightly Tropical
This exciting combo bids you “Good Morning!” Chewy golden raisins and tangy kiwi. My personal favorite. If you really want to get fancy pour some cream over the top.
Savory
Some mornings you just can’t do sweet. This will meet that demand. Toss minced onions on top and sprinkle with some smoked Gouda and/or cheddar. Onions and creamy melted cheese, it may sound like a strange combo, but after trying it, you may find yourself trying to incorporate it into your other meals as well.
Sweet Treat
I’m not one to recommend candy for breakfast, but a spoonful of dark chocolate thrown into this bowlful of goodness I can support. Stir the peanut butter into the hot oatmeal right before serving. Top with diced bananas and chocolate. Filling, gooey, and slightly sweet.
A classic- (pictured above)
At least it was in my house growing up….oatmeal sprinkled with a healthy dose of nutritional yeast. A no fuss way to do breakfast. My husband likes it with addition of hot sauce, and I have to admit-not bad. Kinda gives it a cheesy buffalo vibe.
Good ole' Blueberry
There’s a reason this topping is popular. It's delicious! I use frozen berries. Cheaper, easy to find year round unlike fresh, and the hot oatmeal will thaw them right away. Crunchy walnuts keeping it interesting. Antioxidants (berries) and omega-3s (walnuts), great way to start the day, right?
So here’s to good health and yummy breakfasts. Here is some inspiration to up your fiber intake. Let me know if there are any you like, and if you have an amazing way you like to top your oats, I’d love to hear about it:) The more breakfast options available, the merrier.
Happy eating,
